The book is an experimental study about the way how new technology creates possibilities where traditional edges become blurred.

“Make to order” -services allow an existence of a real physical object that yet still does not exist. There is a book that is real and can be ordered and touched and smelled, yet still in reality it does only exist when one orders it. This is very different from the traditional concept of books and publishing.

To underline the interaction between digital and physical, the content of the book was taken from the One Way Ticket -project. This creates a reverse cycle where digital becomes tangible yet still it does not yet exist.

Surströmming

Surströmming is part of the APN201 concept, which is studying the changes that modern technologies imply on traditional ways of producing and distributing artistic works.

This CD consists of 20-minute long electronic music track, but as with SLEEP, the focus is not on the content itself, but in the context.

Throughout the times people have done home recordings and modern electronic music tools have made it even easier. Still the distribution has been the problem. It has been a big investment to order a disk of demo-discs and then trying to distribute them to friends and record companies.

With the digital distribution channels and “make to order” -services, virtually anything can be globally published, yet it remains hidden because of the missing media coverage.

One Way Ticket

OWT blog
OWT blog

One Way Ticket, or OWT is a project that started as as study of using a blog as a media for fictional work. Over the time the project transformed from blog posts into a collection of loosely connected irrational pieces of poetry to the point where in the end the author of the texts becomes unclear.

The transformation can be seen as a development of a condition, as well as a critic to the nature of Internet where amount of content is increasing and simultaneously the relation between elements becomes invisible.

Some content of the OWT-blog was later used in the book “Aphorisms from the edge of the walk-in closet”.
