Sleep is a work that is not as obvious as it first might seem. As I like to experiment the transition between existing and new, I made the film to observe differences between years 1963 and 2013.
Content-wise the film is very different from Andy Warhol’s original, but although technology has taken big leaps, it is still not that easy to work with 8 hours of material using consumer-grade equipment.
This is a typical example of my work where context goes over content. The film is 8 hours long art movie, yet still it is available as a single-layer DVD from Amazon – a concept that was studied earlier in project: Aphorisms from the edge of the walk-in closet.
In matter of fact when it was screened at Rotterdam International Film Festival 2015, the curator ordered the copy from Amazon.
